Denise Vandevoort

Denise Vandevoort (° 1957) studied political and social sciences at K.U. Leuven and then lost her heart to the city and the people of Leuven. She is keen to share this love of Leuven with visitors from both home and abroad. Since 2003, she has been an alderman in Leuven for Vooruit (then sp.a). Currently she is responsible for culture, tourism, events, part-time art education and seniors.

Eduardo Santander is the Executive Director of the European Travel Commission, an association of NTOs created in 1948 to promote Europe as a tourism destination. Mr Santander has over 15 years of experience in tourism-marketing, brand-development, business-consulting, advocacy and public affairs. He is a passionate advocate of freedom to travel, smart connectivity and sustainability in tourism and beyond.

Karl Wöber MODUL University

Karl Wöber

Karl Wöber is Full Professor and Founding President of Modul University Vienna, elected President of the International Academy for the Study of Tourism, Technical Advisor of European Cities Marketing and the European Travel Commission, and elected chairman of the Expert Committee of the World Tourism Cities Federation. He is also the chairman of the Austrian Private University Conference and elected member of the Board of the European Union of Private Higher Education.

Ljubica Knezevic Cvelbar

Ljubica Kneževic Cvelbar

Ljubica Kneževic Cvelbar is professor at the University of Ljubljana and a visiting professor at more than 30 universities worldwide. She has been involved preparation of more than 70 tourims related projects for European Commission, UNDP, national governments, local municipalities or SMEs. She also act as a President of Strategic Partnership for Research and Innovation in Tourism, a cluster of more than 60 key stakeholders in tourism in Slovenia.

Maarten Bastian - Green City Trip

Maarten Bastian

Maarten Bastian is together with Hessel Winkelman the founder of the Dutch Flywise, a travel company that has developed the sustainable travel concept "GreenCityTrip" during the corona pandemic. Maarten studied business informatics and had already started working out the idea of this concept during his studies. GreenCityTrip provides sustainable overnight train rides to popular European cities. In October 2021 the first train left from Rotterdam to Prague. In the future, Firenze, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Mälmo will be added. Maarten, together with partner Hessel, focuses on sustainable travel experiences

Xavier Font

Dr. Xavier Font, professor of Sustainability Marketing at the University of Surrey, researches and develops methods of sustainable tourism production and consumption and has consulted on sustainable product development, marketing and communication for several United Nations agencies, the International Finance Corporation, the European Commission, national tourist boards and the private sector. He is currently the Principal Investigator for the University of Surrey for the €23m Interreg project Experience to develop low season sustainable tourism visitor experiences in the UK and France.

Valeria Croce is an analyst specialized in international tourism. She has a proven track record in designing and managing research programmes in all aspects of the data production cycle (from data creation to analysis and dissemination).  Valeria worked for major international organisations (European Commission, ETC, UNWTO) and academic institutions. She holds a PhD in Economics and Social Sciences from the Vienna University of Business Administration.

Sven Pöllauer is Head of PR, Marketing & Public Affairs at ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG. He worked in the public sector as Advisor and Spokesman for Ministers and State Secretaries for 12 years before he joined one of Austria’s largest PR & advertising company, Kobza Media Group, as Senior Strategic Advisor. Since 2018 he works for ÖBB Austrian Federal Railways.

Paul Peeters

Paul Peeters is Professor at the Centre for Sustainability, Tourism and Transport (CSTT) at Breda University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands. His publications cover a wide range of topics including tourism and climate change scenario’s, system dynamic approaches to tourism modelling, (air) transport technology, tourism transport mode choice, and modal shift, policy making, tourism climate mitigation and adaptation policies, and transport technological developments.

Katrina Sichel

Katrina Sichel

London-born, Brussels-based, Katrina Sichel has 25 years’ experience in communications as an Event Presenter/Moderator, TV Producer and Campaign Director. Among other roles in an eclectic career, as Head of Production for an award-winning TV PR company, she produced syndicated news reports for the BBC, Channel 4, Sky, ITV, Reuters, AP, CNBC etc, interviewing high-profile figures from the business, politics, arts, sport and fashion spheres.

Joni Asselbergs

Joni Asselbergs

Joni Asselbergs works as a strategic and operational communication advisor for Visit Leuven. Within the team, she is committed using online campaigns and social media to attract domestic and foreign tourists to Leuven as the city trip destination, a town of tradition in innovation with a focus on hospitality and sustainability.

Sven Wiltink

Sven Wiltink, completed a master’s degree in Innovative Hospitality Management and he completed the Business Sustainability Management Course at the University of Cambridge. In 2007 he started as a trainee for Radisson in Iceland. After 9 years of operational experience in various hotels, he started in 2016 in the Responsible Business team in Radisson Hotel Group HQ in Brussels, Belgium. Today he is Global Director of Responsible Business for Radisson Hotel Group

After having lead numerous trips in Europe, Kristijan Svajnzger built his experience working for Intrepid travel in Morocco and Europe(including Iceland). Kathleen Van Boxelaer

Kathleen Van Boxelaer

Kathleen Van Boxelaer studied at KU Leuven, where she graduated in Law and also obtained a postgraduate degree in Real Estate. She specialized an additional year in General Business Management at the Vlerick Business School. 

After 12 years in the Belgian energy sector and interesting years at the head office of AB InBev, Kathleen now works at TUI, fulfilling the role of Director Communications and Public Affairs for Western Region.  

As TUI is one of the leading companies in the travel industry and tourism, they want to continue using their influence to initiate sustainable change, which is also something Kathleen personally values.

Terry Brown

With extensive tourism and international development experience, Terry has managed research, capacity-building and destination stewardship programmes across Europe, Africa, the Americas and Caribbean. Bram Van Braeckevelt is an alderman in Ghent. He is responsible for Public Cleanliness, Tourism, Employment and Festivities. As alderman for tourism, Bram strives for a lively and sustainable tourism that is in balance with the city and its residents. After a broad urban debate, the vision paper 'tourism of the future' lays the foundation for our proud city of Ghent to prioritize livability and quality tourism.

Peter De Wilde

Peter De Wilde

Peter De Wilde (1969) graduated in Romance philology and medieval studies and has a PhD in literature and philosophy. Since 2009 he is the CEO of the Flemish Government tourism board VISITFLANDERS. From 2014 to 2020 he was chairman of the European Travel Commission (ETC). As such, he was also member to the board of the World Tourism and Travel Council (2017-2020). The program “Travel to tomorrow” he launched with VISITFLANDERS, is at the vanguard of global strategic innovation in tourism.

Veerle Viaene

Veerle Viaene

Veerle Viaene has been working for VISITFLANDERS within the theme of heritage for many years. In recent years, she helped shape the commemoration of the First World War in the "Westhoek". At the moment she is also part of the team of the pilot project at the St Godelieve abbey and the Capuchin monastery in Bruges.

Kristof Lataire

Kristof Lataire

Kristof Lataire is former project leader 'Travel to Tomorrow' and as an 'Expert Religious Heritage', program leader on behalf of VISITFLANDERS. Together with a team of colleagues within VISITFLANDERS and numerous partners, he is looking for a new future for the St. Godelieve Abbey and the monastery Minderbroeders Kapucijnen in Bruges and the Herkenrode Abbey in Hasselt. Both are pilot projects in which, based on the philosophy of Travel to Tomorrow, these heritage pearls are to be opened up to tourists and, above all, revalued.
